I successfully made it to my hostel without getting lost (always the aim of the game) after getting the KLIA Express train from the airport to KL Sentral station then transferring over the regular LRT train then a short walk to the hostel. I’m sure I would have made it there fine by myself all be it going around in circles a little bit, however I had a bit of help from a Canadian guy that lives and works in KL who happened to be on the same flight, and got his bags at the same time as me and started conversation.
Second guy on this trip that is going to get some good karma, he took me all the way to the last station as that was where he was transferring to and gave me heaps of tips of things to do while I was here and told me to get in touch if I needed any help or got into any trouble over here.
I arrived pretty late and despite being exhausted still had trouble sleeping, which continued for the rest of the trip, boo!
The following morning I made my way into town to check out the Petronas Towers – they are reasonably close to where I was staying and were about a 20 minute walk away. I enjoyed the walk even though it was crazy hot as it was a nice change from the cold I had in the UK and Europe!
After checking out the towers and the obligatory frozen yogurt (what else would you do in this heat! It was 30 degrees at night to give you some idea of the heat) I decided the rest of the day needed to be spent within some Air Con and went for a bit of shopping. First I ended up at the Pavillion – mostly normal kind of shops like NZ and then went into another mall in this area then tried to find the Times Square building as I had read this was where all the cheaper shops were. After about 20minutes walking in the wrong direction I sorted out where I was going and got to the right shopping centre.
Oh my I could have spent so much money there! Especially given I actually fit all the cute dresses and whatnot there now, unlike when I was in Thailand and all the one-size fits all clothing was pretty tight.
I ended up with three dresses and two tops for a grand total of just under $50NZD, although granted I don’t really need any more clothing. I will have a good sort through what I already have at home and do another clear out.
In other random news a pair of shorts I brought just before Christmas are too big for me and were falling down when I wore them on the way to the airport today, crap, knew I should have brought the smaller size that were a bit snug.
I felt strangely at ease being back in Asia, this is the fifth Asian country I have been to (WTH!) and as frustrating as it can be on days when you aren’t feeling it, on other days what would usually be frustrating seems charming. Like trying to cross the road in between all the crazy traffic and having people yell out hello and waving to you solely because they know your not from around this area.
Good times KL, good times!
