After the bus debacle and a rather late lunch I decided to relax a little and ended up reading / lying around for a few hours. I have only seen one very small guidebook which confirmed the very little research I had undertaken before leaving for this trip; there is not a lot to do in Tahiti.
When the heat had died down a little I took a stroll to get a nice cold drink and have a look at the closest beach. This beach happens to be rocky with no sand and then it began to rain so I did not stay long, it was quiet nice and peaceful as there were only a couple of other people around.
The Pensione hosted an evening that appears as though it has something to do with Christmas however given that Christmas has been I’m not entirely sure of the connection. The owner came looking for me to make sure I went up to the common area with everyone else as I was in the bathroom when the others were told.
There was homemade punch, beers and some undentifable nibbles as well as chips with freshly made guacamole. There are avocado tree’s along with other melon producing trees surrounding the Pensione, this is where they get the fruit for breakfast from as well which is quiet nice.
I stayed for a couple of drinks chatting to an older man from Canada who was in the same dorm as me. The late night and walking had taken it out of me so I called it a night relatively early, attempted to take a shower (what a joke! you have to hold the shower head up while trying to clean yourself, not entirely sure how I am going to shave my legs before heading to L.A but anyway!) and read for about an hour before going to sleep. I think the rum in the punch helped me fall asleep as I was out to it pretty quickly and the light was still on.
The following morning after filling myself up with Baguette with a nutella like substance on it and some type of melons I decided to walk the opposite direction to the way I had been the following morning. I decided I would walk for an hour and then turn around and come back which would conveniently make it about time for lunch as I had slept in, after originally being wide awake at 6am.
I don’t think they get a lot of tourists just walking on the side of the road around these parts as I got a lot of stares and random Bonjours as well as one man yelling something at me in French, the only thing I understood was ‘mademoiselle’, I just smiled and kept on walking.
It is a very weird feeling knowing that my phone doesn’t work here, If I got into trouble I’m not quiet sure what I would do. Although I guess having my phone working wouldn’t overly help me out. It is nice when it is working though knowing that if you get lonely you can text someone back home even if it is just one text.
Not too far before my hour walking one way was up I walked past a pretty old church which made the walk worthwhile as there really wasn’t a lot too see at all if truth be told.
[This post is going live from Paris, where it is currently snowing, WTF, dreaming of warmer weather!]
