Overall London treated me pretty well especially given that I was feeling rather average the whole time while I was there. It was nice to ease into this part of the trip by being somewhere english speaking and knowing a couple of people there as well.
As much as people always seem to say that I am brave to travel by myself, I’ll let you in on a secret… it’s kind of lonely by yourself. It’s never the preferred option but sometimes it needs to be done to get out and see the world, which in the end ultimately trumps that feeling of loneliness, even if you need to remind yourself that at the time.
Given my state of mind on the third day in London I decided I needed to be indoors most of the day and went on a bit of a shopping expedition to Oxford and Regent Streets, a few bargains later (work clothes and exercise gear) and I was well and truly over the number of people shopping, and it was a week day! If I lived over there I think I would do the majority of my shopping online, all those stores delivered then you don’t need to try and search through all the racks for something decent and get pushed around by other people looking.
The warmth must have helped as come the afternoon I was feeling good enough to try and locate the Natural History Museum. This is not something I would have tried to find on my own accord but rave reviews from Leah and Sarah meant there was a good chance I would actually enjoy it.
Arriving at South Kensington tube station and following the signs towards the museum when I turned the final corner and saw the museum I actually physically said wow out loud, the building is incredible both inside and out! And it’s free to enter to double win for the Natural History Museum, highly recommended for anyone travelling or living in London. I spent about an hour and a half here looking through the Dinosaur, Mammals and Human Biology exhibitions and by then was well and truly over people and ready to go back for a rest.
I was planning on doing day four in the same post but this has ended up rather long on it’s own, so you know what the next post will be…
