Turns out there is even less than expected to do on this island, it appears that Moerea has quiet a few activities you can do. If I had of realised this earlier I think I may have headed over to Moerea for a day or two as I’m not very good at sitting around doing nothing for long periods of time.
If I were to come back to Tahiti I would definitely hire a car for a day as well as head over to Moerea or one of the other islands like Bora Bora and stay somewhere resort like to get that tropical island image you conjure up in your mind when you hear the word Tahiti.
I have taken this part of the trip as forced relaxation since there is not a lot to do, the bonus is I have managed to read quiet a bit, do a bit of walking and get the Tahiti blog posts ready to go as soon as I get stable internet – who knows when that will be, it certainly won’t be in Tahiti unless the airport surprises me with free WIFI 😉
I have come to the conclusion that Tahiti is very much like Phuket for me, not in that it is similar to Phuket, because it is one of those places that there isn’t a lot to do unless you spend a decent chunk of change and is kind of lonely by yourself.
I was trying to think which country I have been to I could compare Tahiti too. For me it is a cross between Rarotonga (the island feel and how laid back everyone appears) and Thailand (how rundown everything is). While Tahiti appears to be advanced than Rarotonga in some ways, riders of scooters for instance wear helmets here unlike Raro, in other ways they are almost a bit backwards (for want of a better word), for instance rubbish all through the ditches. I think the backwardness, or dirtyness is what reminds me of Thailand.
Next up…. U.S.A…. Bring on Los Angeles and Las Vegas!
[Note the USA blog posts appear out of order as I didn’t type them while in the U.S.A, will get onto them after London & Paris]
