Travel; Barcelona you are awesome

For my first full day in Barcelona I headed to La Rambla’s which is pretty much a huge street with heaps of places to eat and people selling touristy stuff down the middle, I think in the summer they have people salsa dancing and whatnot here as well, perhaps they even have this in the afternoon as everything seems to start late in Europe.

I just kind of strolled around this area and then ended up in this new port area with heaps of sail boats and a new shopping centre, there are heaps of old and new buildings down here and lots of art/sculptures to look at.

This was my kind of place, I enjoy just aimlessly wandering but seeing cool things along the way and then when you get tired of walking just stopping for a drink and or something to eat and then going again. Or stopping for gelato, stopping for gelato is always a good idea, except today when I had eaten way too much food, maybe tomorrow.

I then decided to head back up La Rambla’s to get some lunch which was 2 tapa’s (they just bring you random stuff you don’t choose, I got lucky and got nice ones, some potatoes with yum sauce and little sausages I think they must’ve been chorizo as they were a bit spicy, no doubt to make you order more drinks) and paella (which I’d never tried before, was ok but wouldn’t be in a rush to get it again) for 8.75euro, I could have just eaten the tapas and been full so it was a pretty good deal, they just lure you in with those cheap prices and then when you add a drink at 5euro it bumps it up- which was one of the cheapest there was – sangria was 12euro, don’t think so!

Afterwards I went back to the shopping centre to find the toilets and then accidentally did a little bit of shopping, I only went in one shop but got some bargains and have managed to get them in my backpack. Two dresses, both the same in different colours – yes I know but they are a good length for work and will look good dressed up with heels and a blazer and three pairs of heels (woops) but they are all work appropriate so I will actually get use out of them, all for the grand total of around $50NZD yeah good luck getting that at home!

I then walked around the port and all down the beaches which was nice it kind of reminded me of Santa Monica and all the buildings reminded me of Argentina, I ended up at another port which has something to do with the olympics when they held them here back in 1992. I then wandered around a bit before getting the metro back to the hostel for a rest and rest I did, I was shattered after all that walking!

I must say I am loving Barcelona so far, fingers crossed it remains this awesome.

Next up Park Guell….
