Summer is fast approaching

Is there anything better than a summer in New Zealand??

Seriously the main thing that I didn’t like about going to South East Asia this past summer was that I was missing out on summer in New Zealand.

If you work in an office like me your likely to get a bit of time off over Christmas / New Years as well which makes summer that extra bit awesomer (yep I decided it’s a word!).

There’s nothing like a sunny crisp day by the beach or lake follow by a BBQ and a couple of cold bevy’s!

Summer also gives us the Big Day Out – which I was a bit annoyed that I missed this year to be honest – C’mon next years line up!!

So now I’m trying to work out the best way to fit in a bit of a trip and still enjoy our awesome NZ summer!

I’m thinking either a 2-3 week NZ trip – either lower South Island or Gisborne/Top of the North Island. Or a 1 week trip to either of those and a 1 week trip to Australia – I’m looking at Tasmania or Cairns – depending on how cheap flights are of course.

Where should I go for a summer break? What are your plans for summer? What is your favourite part of the kiwi summer?

  1. You are reading my mind, Amanda! I’ve been trying to plan a summer holiday for the BF and I for mid Feb next year. We want a mixture of somewhere cheap, but also warm. But I’m trying to decide if it’s worth going away in the NZ summer! Surely it makes more sense to go away in NZ winter to somewhere warm?! It was either between Phuket, Cairns or Raro. At the moment I’m thinking of Cairns, but the BF thinks it’ll be boring. I think it’d be great to be able to lay on the beach and sock up the sun but also do other things like snorkel etc. Plus, they have some great deals to Cairns! My other idea was doing a road trip around the south island, but I worry about the price of that. I’m not sure how it would compare cause I haven’t looked in to it at all. I kind of have my heart set on Cairns though. It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one who wants to go there. Everyone else I’ve spoken to about it looks at me like I have three heads.

    The Great Barrier Reef is right on your doorstep for a start! If you want to go there then I say go there. As for the b/f – do what I do when he isn’t to sure about somewhere – search all the sites on that place and find somewhere he will really enjoy – eg the For our upcoming trip to Singapore, I asked him heaps if we should go to Singapore whenever there were cheap flights and he always said no – this time I found out that the Formula One was on when the cheap flights were on…

    Our text convo went a little something like this;

    Me; Hey there are cheap flights to Singapore in September when the F1 is on, should we go?
    Him; Book It!

    It’s all about searching out stuff they will enjoy sometimes 🙂
