Review: George Foreman Mix and Go

Who doesn’t love a good smoothie or shake after a long day at work or an afternoon spent in the sun?

The problem with this (in the past) has been that you have to pull out the blender or food processor (which let’s be honest – are a bitch to clean), dump your goods into the blender and then pop into a glass (or vessel of your choice) to drink and thereby make more dishes. Often half the smoothie is also left in the bottom of the blender in your rush to get it into your glass and get your drink on.

Another issue is the cost factor – seriously have you seen how much smoothies are in café’s and juice bars? You’d be doing well to get one for under $6 and that my friends can add up very quickly. I am only thinking of your retirement funds here ladies & gents.

George Foreman Mix and Go Review

Enter the George Foreman Mix and Go (Who knew George did so many different products? Not me until I did some digging to find out more!)

The product description for the Mix and Go describes the product pretty well:

“The George Foreman Mix & Go is a compact blender that is perfect for whipping together fresh and healthy ingredients that you can grab and take with you, wherever you go. It is quick and simple to use and can create silky smooth drinks in seconds. To create your beverage of choice, simply fill the Mix & Go with your favourite ingredients, attach the blade, place your bottle onto the base, then twist to start mixing up your concoction. Once the ingredients have been blitzed, simply untwist the bottle, swap the blade attachment for the drink bottle of the lid, and you’re on your way! Being healthy has never been easier, and with no mess and no fuss, the Mix & Go is sure to become an integral part of your daily routine.”

I was excited to give the Mix and Go a trial run so whipped up a quick Banana Peanut Butter Protein Shake as the ingredients that made it up were about all we had in the pantry that sounded like they would go together. Something tells me a rice / oat / sultana concoction may not have been so tasty. My next blog post will be full of recipes of the smoothies and shakes I have made over the past week.

I was pleasantly surprised how quickly the Mix and Go blitzed up the chunks of ice that were used in the smoothie and that I didn’t get chunks of banana floating around (I can’t stand the texture of whole banana’s). Seriously once you put the ingredients in to the Mix and Go you only need to blitz for a few seconds and it’s ready to drink!

I like that the whole George Foreman Mix and Go is not very big so it fits in the cupboard nicely and that it comes with two different bottles so if you haven’t washed yesterday’s dishes yet you still have another one to use. Or you could be generous and let someone else in the house use one if your that way inclined.

It seriously is as easy as throwing your ingredients into the bottle, popping on the lid with the blade and screwing in to the top of the machine. Turn the machine on, blitz, turn the machine off, unscrew from the machine and replace the lid with the blade with the lid you can drink from.

I have two minor issues with the product and neither of them would stop me from recommending the machine to others. Firstly there is no on/off switch so the machine blitzes once it is plugged in and switched on at the wall, it gave me a fright the first time I used it! Secondly if you shake the bottle up when it has the lid you can drink out of on it and then take a drink you are likely to end up with liquid on the end of your nose.  The second point is easily negated by not shaking the bottle up, I only shook it too see if there were lumps at the bottom on my first attempt at making a smoothie – there really is no need to turn the bottle upside down or shake it once the machine has done it’s job.

Overall I really like the George Foreman Mix and Go and would definitely recommend it! Keep an eye out for my next blog post which will feature some yummy recipes for you to try.

  1. I love making smoothies and used to use a Magic Bullet but I may have used it a bit too much and it broke.. Would you recommend this blender for smoothies that use a lot of ice?
