I’ll let you in on a little secret. I don’t like Pumpkin… I also don’t like soup so creating a Home made Pumpkin Soup was a little weird for me.
My parents used to make soup a lot when I was younger and I could never understand why anyone would want to eat something that was mostly water and vegetables. It just made no sense to me whatsoever!
It turns out my taste buds have changed a bit since I was younger and refused to eat soup and although I still don’t eat roasted pumpkin or pumpkin any other way for that matter I really enjoyed this home made pumpkin soup.
If your going to have pumpkin soup, or any other soup for that matter. I feel that it needs to be on a cold wintery day and served with some nice warm home made bread. So that is exactly what we did.
There is something about the smell of fresh bread and soup which makes you feel nice and warm and cosy on a crappy day.
The pumpkin soup didn’t take long too cook at all, so make sure you have your bread baking well in advance. You can swap and change ingredients as you like depending on your taste, I think a little bit of curry powder would be pretty good in it!
The recipe is nice and easy as you pretty much just boil the pumpkin and then use your food processor to make it all nice and creamy! I used my Russell Hobbs Multi Food Processor and it worked perfectly.

Ooooooooh YUM! I absolutely love pumpkin soup and this recipe looks so so good – I love the idea of adding a bit of coconut cream, normally I wouldn’t think to add anything extra but the coconut cream would totally make it next level! Great idea Amanda x
Let me know if you try it, it’s so easy and the coconut cream totally does add to it!
Sounds delish! Pumpkin soup always reminds me of my Grandma – she had such a good recipe! x
My grandad used to make pumpkin soup all the time too, so it reminds me of him. Grandparents always have the best recipes!
I feel the same way about pumpkin. My parents used to own a roast dinner shop so I had all the roast pumpkin I could ever want as a teenager. I didn’t eat it.
Now that I’m an adult, I will cook pumpkin every now and then but I find it is more palatable to me if I add spices. Turmeric, garam masala, curry powder, ground coriander, ginger etc and definitely coconut cream! When pumpkin is in season, it’s crazy cheap so the bargain hunter in me forces the pumpkin hater to eat more pumpkin.
Spices are definitely required I reckon! I made this soup with some kumara and a bit of curry powder as well which was pretty awesome too!
I saw whole pumpkins for $1 the other day. one dollar! So cheap, next time I see them that cheap we are making a huge batch of soup for our lunches!
I used to hate pumpkin as a kid too, but now I LOVE it!! I’ve got a big pumpkin from the garden sitting waiting to be used so I’ll try your recipe – sounds delicious x
Let me know how you find it, I love that it’s a versatile soup and you can add any spices you want to it to make it taste slightly different but tasty!
