There is something about a caramel sauce. I’m not sure why but I’ve never actually been a huge chocolate sauce (or ice cream) fan, I’ve always gone for caramel. Is anyone else with me on this? (hello… is there anybody out there……?) I can’t be the only person who isn’t a huge chocolate sauce or ice cream fan?
While creating my deconstructed ANZAC Slice (if you haven’t gone and entered our competition yet, hop to it!), I got thinking about creating a healthier dairy free and paleo caramel sauce.
While this ‘recipe’ is one of those recipes which is so simple that I feel like a con for calling it a recipe it can be altered depending on the ingredients you have available.
I have decided to go with honey for this particular version of my paleo caramel sauce but you could also use maple syrup or golden syrup quite easily and still have a delicious dairy free caramel sauce!
This paleo caramel sauce is naturally gluten free, refined sugar free, and dairy free meaning that almost anyone can have it!
Ingredients
1 cup coconut cream
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon coconut oil
Directions
- Add all ingredients to a saucepan.
- Simmer slowly over a low heat, stirring occasionally until the sauce begins to turn a golden caramel color and thicken. This may take 30-40 minutes.
- Store in the refrigerator.
I told you it was super easy! Anyone can make this recipe, and you’re pretty likely to have all the ingredients on hand too!
What would you serve this paleo caramel sauce with?? – Comment below and let me know, I love hearing from you!
Yum, this sounds so good! I might even need it with my yoghurt and fruit in the morning!
I am going to make to dip apple slices in, or put on non dairy ice cream
I also prefer caramel to chocolate sauce!!!
