Last weekend the NZ Fitness Expo was held at ASB showgrounds in Auckland and we went along on the Sunday afternoon for a bit of a look around.
We had purchased our tickets to the NZ Fitness Expo online which saved us a couple of dollars and we walked straight through and didn’t have to queue – pro tip, do this next year!
I have wanted to go to the NZ Fitness Expo for the past couple of years but living a 5-6 hour drive away always stopped that thought pretty quickly. I knew this year I would have to go, especially since ASB showgrounds are pretty close to where we live.
While I was excited to go and have a look around the NZ Fitness Expo, I was a bit nervous that it was all going to be supplement companies trying to push their supplements and not a lot else. Whilst I was correct in regards to there being a lot of supplement companies there were quite a few other different stalls which was nice to see.
We did a bit of a loop around the Expo site, trialling a few of the different supplements and protein bars etc and ended up beside the strongman stall where we stood around watching people from the public attempting to lift a ridiculously heavy (and very wide handled) dumbbell with one hand without much luck.
The b/f gave the 1 minute spin bike competition a go (with tired legs as he had his first track cycling race in a long time the night before) and got second on the leader board and remained there at least until we left the expo late in the afternoon.
We did another loop around the expo before ending up back at the strongman stall where we watched the log lifting competition – sounds relatively easy but that log was 95kg and very wide! A couple of the guys were very close to breaking NZ records, in fact an NZ record was broken for a different event the day before!
At the end we headed on over to the crossfit invitational stall where the finals of a women’s event (no idea which one sorry!) was just about to get underway. I’ve never given crossfit a go but I like to lift heavy and am competitive, I reckon I would really enjoy entering one of these competitions! After some training of course!
We didn’t end up bringing home many free samples to be honest and looking at the hauls from some people who attended on the Saturday morning we missed out on a few goodies!
Pro Tip – If you can handle the hoards of people and you want lots of free stuff to take home then go on the Saturday Morning when they are more stocked with the freebies!
Overall I really enjoyed the NZ Fitness Expo and would most likely go again next year if we are free that weekend. I do find it a bit odd that you have to pay to get in the gates at these types of things as I feel that the people who host it are just making a shit tonne of money between our entry fees and the fees the stallholders have to pay but I guess there isn’t a lot that is free these days!
Have you ever attended any type of expo?
I’ve been to a travel expo, women’s expo and now the NZ Fitness expo.
