My powerlifting journey began in July 2015 with a decision to enter the local Novice Competition held by the Central Districts Powerlifting Association in Palmerston North. I was SO nervous about the first competition and really didn’t have much of a clue what I was doing or what I was in for.
Fast forward to 2020 and I now have 18 competitions under my belt, have competed for NZ four times (Oceanias, Commonwealths and Worlds 2018 & 2019) and have aspirations to do so plenty more times in the future. 2020 will likely be a year off powerlifting for me, partly due to the Covid-19 situation and partly because as I update this post I am 6 and a half months pregnant 😉
Post Nationals 2016 I decided to get really serious about this whole powerlifting business and see how far I could go with it – you’ll see my results improved once I made this decision! I previously competed in the Open 57kg class but at the end of December 2016 decided to cut down to the Open 52kg Class as I sit a bit below the 57kg weight class anyway. I do watercuts and bodyweight manipulation to make it into the 52kg class as I naturally sit somewhere around 55-57kg so long as I’m eating reasonably well (not dieting) and exercising.
Below is a quick run down of the competitions I have done so far and my results.
Green is a good lift, red is a failed lift. (Click on the image to see bigger then hit the back button to come back here).
I have held numerous records across the 52kg & 57kg classes in New Zealand.
My programming is done by a combination of myself and my partner Kyle. We are both personal trainers and powerlifting coaches. If you are looking for an online powerlifting coach just get in touch. I currently am a Wellington & Central Powerlifting Association member. I am also their secretary and the secretary of the New Zealand Powerlifting Association so if you have any questions about powerlifting don’t hesitate to get in touch!
