On the weekend just been we completed a 5km Mud Run here in Wanganui with 20 other Bootcampers! 2015 was the first year we had entered the Mud Muster and we had a really good time. Pretty much straight after the event I started thinking about what we could wear for 2016!
Since we have a much higher proportion of females to males at Wanganui Bootcamp, we decided to go with a female orientated outfit. We designed a new t-shirt logo and a saying for the back of the t-shirts and got a designer onto making it look pretty for us and then got it printed.
We then created cobalt blue tutu’s from scratch (they are super easy to make once you’ve got everything together and cut the tulle) and I made some wonder woman crowns using cardboard which I cut out, spray-painted, added a glitter star which I cut out using a scrapbook cutter and then added gold elastic to hold the crowns onto our heads. It was a bit of an effort getting the outfits together for 20+ people, but I think we looked pretty awesome on the day!
On the day of the event the weather was pretty average and it rained while we were part way through the course and while prize giving was being undertaken which is a shame as I know there was A LOT of organisation which went into the event, however I think everyone had a really good time.
This year was a lot harder than 2015 as it was a lot muddier than the previous year. 2015 saw three huge hills in the course, whereas 2016 saw only 1 of these big hills in the course, but a lot more mud to slow you down. There were more obstacles this year and there was a really long section of track which was wading through mud for what felt like forever, in reality it was probably more like 100-200 metres!
As with 2015, I stayed at the back of the group to make sure all the boot campers were okay and knew if anyone had stopped along the way we would come across them that way. As I’m planning on participating in a couple of powerlifting competitions before the year is out I couldn’t risk injuring myself so sticking to the back was a good idea as I’m quite good at rolling my ankles on uneven surfaces.
I enjoyed the extra mud this year, but did miss the slides that were in the 2015 Mud Muster. I’d highly recommend getting a bunch of friends together and attending a Mud Run. It sounds like it would be horrible (I hate being wet and cold as much as the next person), but it’s a great opportunity to have a laugh, get dirty and play! We take things way to seriously with everything going on in our lives so it’s nice to relax and have a laugh.
Now to think about what we will wear next year….
Have you ever done a Mud Run? Would you ever do a Mud Run?
