One of the things I do really like at work is that there are cool little sayings and articles posted up behind the photocopier which you can read while you wait for your printing (and wait you do, as the photocopier is really slow, which did surprise me).
One of the articles that has been put up is from Life wise and is a list of 101 ways to live wisely, this must have been printed in the newspaper or somewhere and is also conveniently on their website. A number of these piqued my interest as they are either things I would like to start doing or already mindfully do.
In numerical order;
#2 – Walk, Don’t Drive – where possible
Totes agree, save the environment, save your waistline and the fresh air is good for you, Win/Win!
#17 – Get Fitter, Feel Better
Amen! And look forward to more posts in this area as it’s something I’m really enjoying. “I regret that workout, said no one ever!”
#23 – Turn the lights off when you leave a room
Unless your going to go straight back in there, agreed. I will never understand why some people have every single light on in the house when they are only in the lounge. Probably just because we only ever had the lights on in the room we were in when I was growing up.
#39 – Ban the TV for one day a week
Well we don’t even own a TV at the moment and I’m more than happy for it to remain like that, although being able to watch movies on a bigger screen (compared to a laptop) is nice. There is an enormous amount of crap that comes out of that little box, but each to their own. I believe switching off every now and again is good for you, be it the TV, internet, cell phone or other technology.
#46 – Send an occasional letter instead of an e-mail
Guilty as charged for not doing this, but it’s exciting to get snail mail as the only snail mail that ever comes when you’re a ‘grown up’ appears to be bills or someone trying to sell you crap. I’m going to add this to my thought bank and do it sometime soon.
#53 – Phone your parents
It’s weird to me now having to do this since I live out of town but I think it’s important to touch base with them, see what they are doing and I’m sure they like hearing about what you have been doing and just hearing your voice as well.
#64 – Grow veges for yourself, neighbours etc
Not so much the growing for others (I don’t think the food would go to waste with us anyway!) but the actual act of eating something you have grown or made from scratch is an ideal I really like. I think we’ll start small on this one with some nice and easy to grow herbs and spices.
#68 – Buy veges that are in season
To someone with an accounting background this is just pure logic, why buy the expensive veges? Sure I love avocados but I’m not shelling out $2.50 each for them out of season, I’ll just wait my patience and enjoy the carrots and beans and other veges that are a better price. Surely they have to be better for you as well as produce out of season has to be kept fresh somehow (shudder), or be grown in an unnatural environment.
#84 – Let someone cut in during rush hour
Even if I’m in a hurry I always try and let someone in if they look like they are in need and have been waiting a while with no one letting them in. It’s called karma, try it 😉 Well actually it’s just plain nice to do something positive for a stranger, you never know what kind of a day they’ve had.
#93 – Manners count – say please & thanks
Seriously you would think some people don’t even know what those words mean. Manners make the world go round (ohk maybe not but they sure make it a nicer place to be!).
#99 – Accept Change – Be Flexible
I think this just makes your life easier, why sweat over the small stuff. Plans change, people change, life changes, accept it, embrace it and go with the flow. What will be will be. I accept sometimes there are times when you need to fight for what you want and accepting the change goes against what you feel is right, in those times speak up. In others, roll with the punches and keep smiling, life is what you make it, and it should be awesome 😉
Check out the list and let me know which ones resonate with you…
