So, this will make three blog posts this year. Look out 2018 we are catching you and going to overtake you soon! I briefly mentioned it in my last post with the Feijoa coconut and honey cake recipe but I thought I would do a proper post about being selected to represent New Zealand at the IPF Raw World Champs being held in Helsingborg, Sweden this year.
The 2019 IPF Raw World Powerlifting Champs will be my second worlds and my forth international competition where I get to wear the silver fern. Last year I was nominated 7th and ended up finishing 7th overall and taking home the bronze medal for squat. This year I am nominated 8th and honestly have no idea where I will end up on the day.
Based on how training has been over the last year and my results from competitions I should be able to beat my nominated total but at worlds anything can happen. In 2018 I got a 142.5kg squat, 67.5kg bench and 165kg deadlift for a total of 375kg which was is not the best total I have done, my nationals total about 7 weeks after worlds was a 383.5kg which is my nominated total.
My goals for the 2019 IPF Raw World Powerlifting Championships is to play my game, not worry about anyone else, go and try for some new PBs, maybe an NZ Record or two and to just have fun. Squats have been going really well the last couple of cycles despite a bit of a nightmare for Regionals so we will see what happen on the day. I would really like to get at least 70kg bench in this comp, I’ve benched 70 heaps of times now but only once as a 52kg lifter in a 3 lift competition so it would be great to get it at World level. Deadlifts have actually been going pretty well in training which is something new for me as they are usually pretty crap in training if I’m being honest so we’ll see what happens on the day there as well!’
