When I wrote my 2014 Goals blog post I didn’t list all the goals I have for this year or it would have been quite a long post however one of my shorter term goals was to increase my squat weight for 8 reps by 10kg by 30 April 2014, which doesn’t sound like a lot but was a 16% increase and I was already doing above my body weight.
I’m pleased to say that even with my lovely (insert sarcasm here) injury I still managed to knock it out of the park, I managed to do a 70kg squat for 8 reps which is considerably higher than my body weight so I’m super proud of myself!
I had decided I was going to see how things went and attempt the 70kg after a 60kg and then an attempt at 65kg (which I had only one once before prior to injuring myself), and then I had the biggest blonde moment, went on auto pilot and racked up what I thought was 65kg which after I had done the 5 reps I was planned to do and de-racked (the squat racks were busy so the b/f was my racker and un-racker 😉 – Which I don’t recommend unless the other person knows exactly what they’re doing and can actually lift that weight confidently.) The b/f then gave me a look, like what on earth are you doing and look at what you’ve done, I looked down and realised that instead of adding a total of 5kg to the bar I’d added 5kg both side – no wonder it felt so friggen heavy!
Well now that I’d done 70kg, I’d have to do it again for my last set. And since I managed the programmed set of 5 I decided I’d try and get the 8 in the next set so I could meet my goal – SUCCESS!
And to top it all off I managed to do it about 6 weeks before the date I had originally set! Now it’s time to set a new goal…
Have you ever added the wrong weight to the bar and done more than you expected to?
Have you smashed any of your goals this year as yet?
Well done amanda
The rest of my comment didn’t come up. I also said threats pretty hardcore.
Thanks Hun 🙂
well done amanda!! i’ve never accidentally put the wrong weight on, but i have seen people who have an i am jealous when they get accidental PBs! mind over matter huh!
Such a weird way to get a PB but I’ll take it! Sometimes not thinking about it is the best way to get it done that’s for sure!
