I am going to hazard a guess and say that this would have to be the easiest and healthiest banana ice-cream you’ve ever tried (or about to try).
If you don’t like the texture or taste of banana’s don’t click away from this post straight away, bare with me.
I can’t stand the texture of banana’s in fact a couple years ago I made a New Years resolution to try eat a Banana again for the first time for as long as I can remember and I couldn’t even manage to get the first bite down. It’s a texture thing as for me I actually like the Banana flavor. If it’s the flavor you don’t like then there are plenty of things you can add in to disguise the taste I’m pretty sure chocolate ice-cream will keep most of you interested 😉
It’s also super easy, although does require a little bit of forward planning. What I do it whenever we get banana’s is cut a couple up (or right when they are looking a bit brown and don’t look appetizing to eat as a banana anymore – ice-cream doesn’t judge the color of the banana’s skin!) and throw them in a zip lock bag in single banana servings and then forget about them until I am having a sugar craving after dinner.
When that craving hits pull one (or more) of your bags of pre-cut banana’s out of the freezer and let it thaw for a few minutes on the bench while you get out your food processor (a blender may work here as well depending on how powerful it is), pop the banana in the food processor and turn it on. If the blades get stuck or the banana doesn’t want to blend after a couple tries just add a little water or milk to get it moving (try a little at a time as you don’t want it to be watery).
Once its all moving around and starting to blend together and take on more of an ice-cream consistency you can either take it out and eat it or put in your add-ins and create different flavors!
Some Add in’s include:
Peanut Butter / Powdered Peanut Butter (if your saving calories)
Frozen Pineapple
Frozen Berries
Chocolate Whey Protein (or any flavor Whey)
If you don’t like the flavor of banana I would suggest using a tiny bit of cocoa powder and then some chocolate whey or if you don’t have whey a little bit of sweetener (Artificial Sweetener, Sugar, Honey or Maple Syrup – depending on your dietary needs and feels on artificial sweeteners). I say to add cocoa powder as the chocolate whey on it’s own may not pack enough of a chocolate hit to completely disguise the banana taste.
Have you tried this healthy ice-cream before?
What flavor combination do you think would work well?
