I’m said before that I’m no Beauty blogger, I leave that up to my good friends over at Makeupper. However I do enjoy getting creative (generally in the kitchen), so I thought it would be fun to make some DIY Bath Bombs!
I’d heard that they were pretty easy to make and worked out way cheaper than in the stores, the accountant in me loves that!
To make these super easy DIY bath bombs you will need the following:
1 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1/2 cup epsom salts
1/2 cup citric acid
3 teaspoons coconut oil
1 teaspoon water
2 teaspoon essential oil (I used lemongrass)
1/2 Cap Food Coloring of your choice (Optional)
Bath bomb mould (or Ice cube trays – or just your hands)
This made 4 large Bath Bombs, slightly smaller than a tennis ball. I would recommend only using half of one of these in the bath as that’s heaps!
Directions
1. Add all dry ingredients to a large bowl
2. Mix all wet ingredients in a mug (melt the coconut oil if it’s hard)
3. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients slowly, a teaspoon at a time and mix through.
4. One all combined, packed into your bath bomb moulds or ice cube trays, if you are using your hands just squish some of the mixture together between your hands to form a ball.
5. Take out of the mould and leave out to dry on a tray with baking paper on the bottom.
These bath bombs were even easier to make than I expected, my batch used a little bit more coconut oil than I needed so they were a little bit wetter than they needed to be, but they still worked really well!
I got the epsom salts and sodium bicarbonate online from Blants, they are a NZ company sells larger quantities without flashy packaging, which means you save the money they would have spent on marketing and pretty labels! A 5kg tub of each will make a tonne of bath bombs – store them away in your laundry and do a batch every couple of months. I also spied a 15% off code for Blants valid through til 23rd August if you want to stock up yourself: AP816
These DIY Bath Bombs would also make perfect gifts for friends and family members, they are super easy to make, well appreciated and also quite cheap! The great thing about these DIY Bath bombs is that you can make so many different variations by just changing the color and the essential oil you use! I can’t wait to try some of our Scentsy essential oils in future batches!
Have you ever tried making Bath Bombs before??
Brilliant! What you touched on is exactly why I love the ‘buying the basics and making your own’ philosophy – you can add ANY scent you want and it’s so personalised. My kids love a wild orange essential oil and I confess to liking the winding down in the evening ones like lavender – I’m such an old granny!
