I went to the gym (Curves) last night despite feeling pretty average as I wanted to see how many calories I actually burnt.
You may or may not have seen the ad’s around for Curves advertising that you can burn up to 500calories a session – a session at Curves is a 30minute circuit.
So the results,
170 calories <– are you friggen kidding me? I worked pretty hard considering I was feeling crap, I didn’t expect to get to 500 but I thought it would be a lot closer than that!
My Heart rate monitor also said 20g fat, I guess that’s good? I’m not really 100% sure what that even means yet!
So while Curves is way over advertising the calories burn’t (yeah I know i’m young and not that big, but c’mon that is a HUGE difference), I have still lost a lot of CM so it definately does work.
I received the Zumba kit I purchased off Leah today, so need to give that a go as well as walking up and down the stairs a few times and going for a run, Curves have also started doing Curves with Zumba – I havn’t tried it yet but looks like I might need to give it a go.
I’ll give verdicts on calories burn’t on each of those soon 🙂
What exercise do you think will burn the most calories? Have you had any surprises on the amount of calories burn’t doing an exercise?
I have found so far running for 40mins on 10 speed helps burn a lot of cals for me (just over 560 on a good day) but I think Curves from my understanding is aimed at women who are time poor and just need that quick circuit exercise fix. That is how they advertise here in Australia. So really strange that they would say such a thing about burning 500 cals.
Yeah I think that’s who it is aimed at here as well so it is really odd that they say that about the calories, although I guess for a lot of the woman that go there they would be burning closer to 500 than I do! I’m kind of tempted to try Curves Smart & see what that reckons I burn, but I’m also tempted to changes gyms (not because of this, due to other factors) so we shall see.
Wow does curves really advertise that? That’s a bit misleading unless it’s for really overweight, hugely unfit people?!
So far my overload sessions (weights circuits..) have had the highest cals:time ratio, once I burnt 450 in 29mins! (that’s huge for me). Running is a pretty close second, esp if i do hill intervals where I can get up to around 400 in half an hour with an average HR of around 172.
It’s so much fun seeing how much diff things burn and how your HR responds to them. Congrats on your new purchase!
My guess is that it’s aimed at the middle age ladies that aern’t very fit maybe? Not 100% sure but yeah, I was dissapointed, but lucky I have already been going for a number of months so new that it worked regardless.
I’m really excited to see how many calories are burn’t in the other exercise’s I do, you lovely ladies who exercise have changed me from the lazy person I once was!
I also go to Curves and I average probably aroud the 260 cals burned each session on the Curves Smart system.
I have just started going to the Curves Zumba classes and I Love those (even makes me get up early on a Wednesday morning just to go so that tells you that I enjoy them). I def get a better work out combining the Curves with Zumba then I do the regular circuit however can’t measure what that equals in cals as they don’t use the Smart system when you do the Zumba. But I def leave feeling like I’ve had more of a work out. Plus the time passes far more quickly when you are having fun!
Pheww at least it’s not just me that doesn’t burn 500calories in a session!
How are you enjoying curves smart? I’ve been asked if I want to go on it lot’s but just thought it was another cost? And I push myself anyway, do you think it’s worth it?
I’ll let you know how the calories burn’t on normal curves circuit vs zumba stacks up using my heart rate monitor when I give the class a go 🙂
