For the last two years I have put together quick gift guides for specific groups of people, generally those who are into their health and fitness, foodies and travellers. This year is no exception, it’s actually kind of cool to look back and see what I thought good gifts would be and see how those have changed (or not) with the passing time.
I’m putting this Christmas Gift Guide for the Traveller out early as some of the items will be required to be ordered online and may take a week or so too arrive. I’ve tried to include gifts in all pricing levels, so even if you have to find a small Secret Santa gift for a Traveller this Christmas I’ll have you covered! Don’t forget to check out my Christmas Gift Guide for Gym Bunnies as well!
In no particular order, here are some of the best gifts (in my opinion) for the traveller in your life this Christmas.
// Best in Travel 2017
I’m a huge fan of the Lonely Planet, Best in Travel Books which are released each year. They are also reasonably priced (Under $30!) and make a great gift for the traveller in your life to get lusting for their next trip. I really like this book because it doesn’t just give countries to visit, it gives some more specific trends for the year, looks as though 2017 may include bikepacking and micro-distilleries!
// Microfiber Towel
You can purchase microfiber towels from most outdoor supplies shops,or online they are generally reasonably priced (although more expensive than a normal towel) and you’ll pick one up for under $30. They are a great gift for a traveller because they fold down to almost nothing, weigh almost nothing and they dry super quickly – all are huge selling points for a traveller!
// Power Bank
Dealing with charging phones, cameras etc while travelling can be a bit of a pain in the butt. There is nothing worse than your phone or camera dying while you are out and about in a foreign country. Getting the traveller in your life a power bank is a great way to ensure that they will always be able to capture pictures of where ever they are travelling too. Starting at $30 is a small price to pay to have a backup power source if your phone or camera dies and to be able to capture all those images to keep forever.
// Ear Plugs
Ear plugs are the perfect gift for a traveller, especially for when they discover that their hotel is right next door to a pub, they have a snorer in their dorm room or on the sleeper train or they want to try to have a little nap in the airport in between flights. Not only are these a great gift, they are super cheap! Depending on the style you go for, you should be able to pick some up for under $20 max!
// Cutlery Set
We take our travel Cutlery sets everywhere that we travel, they are great because they fold down to almost nothing and it means that we can purchase food from supermarkets to eat (therefore saving money) and use our cutlery to eat it with. This means we don’t have to always go to restaurants or back to our hotel to eat. We purchased ours from Kathmandu, but you can find them at most places that sell camping supplies as well. Just make sure you put the knife in your checked bag, it’s not big enough to hurt anyone but it could get taken off you at Customs – yes I am speaking from experience. It went through fine when we went to Bali, mine got taken off me when we went to USA, Kyle’s got through fine – go figure.
// World Traveller Watch
This world traveller watch was shown to me as a sponsored post on Instagram, but I actually think it’s a really cute gift idea for a traveller! I would totally wear it if I wore a watch! I was expecting it to be really expensive but it looks as though its $20USD so not too bad! A little bit of an out of the box idea, which is reasonably priced! A watch is always super handy to have when you travel, especially if your phone dies (and you don’t have a power pack) and you’ve got to be at a certain point for a tour later that day ;).
Which of these gifts would you most like to receive? – Comment below and let me know, I love hearing from you!
Ooh I appreciate this gift guide a lot! My brother is going to be doing a lot of travel and I wasn’t sure where to start! Thanks!
I’m so glad it was helpful Kez!!
I am finally catching up on all your Blogs. The Best in Travel 2017 Book looks good and has given me an idea about a stocking filler for Podge. So thank you.
