Black Beans, Cocoa Powder & Trash

What do Black Beans, Cocoa Powder & Trash have in common?

                     Failed Black Bean Brownies!

My attempt at making Black Bean Brownies was a dismal failure! I’d read about them all over blogs I’d been looking at over the past couple of months and thought it was about time I gave them a go.

I put a tweet out to find out where you could get Black Beans as I’d never seen them before and it turns out Ceres Organic do some in the organic section of Countdown. There are also some in the delmaine range but our supermarket only had the ones in chilli sauce – some people like chilli and chocolate though, could be worth a try sometime!

My major mistake was deciding to bake them as soon as I got up instead of waiting until after lunch – I am not good in the morning! I quickly wrote the recipe down and jumped into the kitchen, blended the black beans added everything else to the blender then popped the brownies in the pan to bake for 30mins.

The house smelt pretty awesome I must say! We then went about our day as normal and in the afternoon somehow realised that I had put in 3/4cup cocoa powder instead of 1/4 cup. Ohhh crapballs!

Yep chocolate overload, so overloaded that my Black Bean Brownies had to become friends with the trashcan.

I will make these again with the correct ingredients and let you know how they turn out, cas the failed recipe did look nice and moist in the centre!

Pity as they wern’t too bad for you either, each piece of brownie was just under 100calories!

What was your latest cooking/baking faux pax?

  1. Hey, you tried something new – I’m sure the brownies will be fabulous next time 🙂
I can’t get scones right. I can’t even be bothered trying again haha. They get a bit dense and rock like even though I follow the recipes perfectly (well maybe I actually don’t or they’d work out better). Last time I made them I just heated them up and slathered them in jam and cream – seemed to hide their crappiness.
Baking totally comes with practice. I’ve learnt that lately!

    1. Thats a good way to think of it, I did try something new and I can almost guarantee i’ll double check amounts of cocoa powder in future recipes!

Have you tried making the scones using lemonade? They are supposed to be quiet light and fluffy, I wouldn’t know as I don’t eat them 😉 But I made them for the BF once and he did like them 🙂
