I had never been a fan of buying juices in the past, for two reasons, one being the cost and the other being the calories. This stems from the day of counting calories, where one of the first things you learn pretty quickly is not to drink your calories. Since I have stopped counting calories and started counting nutrients more (occasionally I still use my fitness pal to see where I am at though), I have begun to have the occasional juice.
I quickly discovered that any time I order a fresh juice I always go for the ones with Beetroot in it. Beetroot can be a bit of an acquired taste, and it kind of smells a little like dirt when you go to drink it, but it’s sweet and I think that’s why I enjoy it. I wasn’t having juice that often but it was a Friday treat for me when we lived in Auckland and I had the day off and when we moved to Wanganui I had one every couple of weeks if there wasn’t a big line at the juice cart.
I had been wanting a juicer for a while but couldn’t justify the cost of one, around Christmas time I discovered a juicer at Countdown of all places for $55 and at the time thought it was a good deal but didn’t get one. Fast forward a few months and I decided that I did want that juicer so went on the hunt for it, I finally found one tucked away at the second Countdown we went to. Naturally the first juice I attempted to make was a recreation of the ones I had tried before using Beetroot and Carrots.
To be honest I haven’t actually tried to make any other juices as I really like this Beet, Carrot and Apple Juice! It’s super easy to make, literally chop the ingredients up a little so they fit in your juicer and push them through and then you’re done! I make a big batch of 1 litre of the Beet, Carrot and Apple juice at a time and keep it in the fridge, using it over the next few days. This saves washing it after every use as anyone who’s ever washed a juicer knows what a pain in the butt it is.
- 2 Large Beetroot
- 3 Medium Carrots
- 1 Medium Apple
- Chop ingredients so they are small enough to fit in the spout of your juicer.
- Push the ingredients through the juicer, alternating with beetroot, carrot and apple so the juice gets mixed as you push it through.
- Pop in the fridge or serve straight away.
What type of fresh juice do you enjoy?
Yum, this is one of my favourite juices -I like to add a bit of ginger in it for an extra kick too!
I add a little bit of ginger sometimes as well, it does give it a nice little kick!
This is my favourite juice! I don’t have it very often as I get put off by all the cleaning..my juicer is a bit spastic and juicing beetroot makes my kitchen look like a massacre. Did you know this combo is known as the ‘Miracle Juice’? They make a lot of claims about it and I’m not too sure how true they are, but it sure tastes good 🙂
You should definitely try doing a big batch at once, I now only use my juicer 1-2 times per week which saves a lot of cleaning 🙂
Ha, I also make this combo but with a juice-blender-to-go thing (lol, don’t know the name), not a regular juicer. It takes way less cleaning, you just need to add more water as it makes it kinda thick. But I love, love, love it!
I should give it a go in my George Foreman mix and go come to think of it 🙂
