A month or so ago we went on the inaugural Auckland Food Tours North Shore tour to see what was on offer, find some shops and food we wouldn’t have otherwise discovered and generally just have a nice day out.
I always thought organised tours were for geriatrics, or if you are travelling alone. While they are great for both the Auckland Food Tour is also great for young people who are interested in food (foodies unite!), to discover some hidden gems around Auckland.
The tour sizes are small enough to be personal and to hear the tour guide at all times. The tour is perfect for tourists who want to see a bit more of Auckland while trying some of the delicious food on offer. We live near the city and don’t venture over to the North Shore very often, which is something we really should have done as there are a lot of different little food places there is no way we would have ever known about unless we decided to do a tour such as this one.
The tour departs from Smales Farm which is nice and easy to access by bus no matter which direction you are coming from. I would most recommend this tour to Auckland locals, we’ve only been living in Auckland for around 1.5 years so we are fresh and would be exploring more than those who have lived here forever and there is no way we would have ever found these gems by ourselves!! The tour would also be nice for tourists if they have an additional day or two in Auckland to spare.
I don’t want to give away where you would go if you went on the Auckland Food Tours – North Shore tour however I will tell you that there was a lot of amazing food on offer. There was an amazing bakery we would have never discovered otherwise with lots of European style breads, cakes and pastries, another favourite was the shish kebab we had at the end of the tour.
We were never hungry during the tour and we are both massive eaters so it was always a little bit of a concern – for no reason. There was so much on offer, and a few foods we would have never of normally tried as well as a chance to purchase additional products at each stop if we like (but there was no pressure to do so like you get on some tours).
All in all I’d definitely recommend Auckland Food Tours for anyone interested in food for a great day out, you will definitely come home with full bellies! Auckland Food Tours offer gift vouchers for those hard to buy for people. I would have loved to have received a gift voucher for Auckland Food Tours, I love giving people the gift of an experience rather than something material!
You can find Auckland Food Tours on their website, facebook, twitter or Instagram.
Have you ever done a food tour before or would you like to try one?
“I always thought organised tours were for geriatrics, or if you are travelling alone” – I’M WITH YOU! I can’t say that the idea of attending a food tour had appealed before I’d heard of Auckland Food Tours, but now it’s something that I’d love to try!
You should definitely look at giving one of the tours a go, you will find some gems of places in Auckland! 🙂
I’ d definitely consider it! We are foodies but on a budget, but certainly I could see us doing this at another stage in life.
