I am very excited to announce on the blog that I made the B team for the Asia/Oceania Powerlifting Championship which is being held in Christchurch in December 2016!
Considering I didn’t think I would even be doing Nationals this year it was a bit of a surprise that I did well enough at Nationals to be considered. Since I am in the B team I will be competing in the Oceania Championship. It’s a huge thrill to know that I will be competing for New Zealand!
I am still kicking myself for not going down to the 52kg Class at Nationals as I really hadn’t thought about any competitions going forward, I was just stoked I could even attend Nationals and didn’t even expect to do very well! I actually thought since I qualified for Nationals at Central Districts Champs in 57kg that I had to stay in that class, but it seems I could have gone down! Since I competed in the 57kg class at Nationals I have been advised that I have to stay in the 57kg Class for Oceania’s, even though I could make the weight for 52kg. Such is life!
The goals have been set and the hard work is already underway! Now that Oceania’s is set in stone and my name is officially on the list I have been looking for gyms that have appropriate powerlifting facilities in Las Vegas and New York – this is actually more difficult than you would imagine when you won’t be having a car and don’t want to travel an hour either way!
Coming across basic gyms is dime a dozen, but finding ones you can squat, bench and deadlift in are proving a little more challenging. I’m pretty sure I’ve found two gyms in New York within a few minutes from where we are staying which will be suitable (albeit pricey! $20USD – almost $28NZD for a casual session #ouch), but Las Vegas is proving trickier, everything seems to be nowhere near walking distance from where we are staying so I’ll likely have to add on the cost of a taxi to whatever exorbitant fee they charge for casual sessions!
Kyle & I were both honoured to be featured in our local paper over the weekend, if you want to check out the article go HERE.
So for the next 8 weeks or so it will be an Eat, Sleep, Work, Train cycle even more than usual! I’ll post a recap of the Oceania Powerlifting Championships once the chalk has settled, for now if you want to follow along, I often post short training clips on my Instagram!
