Review: Embracing It Recipe Journal

Review: Embracing It Recipe Journal

A couple of years back I interviewed Emma Kay when I was still doing the inspiring people interview series. Emma is a twenty something lover of Crossfit, yoga, real food and baking.

When Emma approached me and asked if I’d like to giveaway one of her Recipe Journals I thought it would be a great idea (read through to the end for the giveaway!), and I’d been eyeing up her recipe journal anyway so thought I would do a short review for you all as well. All of the recipes are refined sugar free and most are dairy free and gluten free or can be made to be dairy free and gluten free.

As someone who has a huge sweet tooth it was like a dream flicking through the pages of Emma’s recipe journal as pretty much all the recipes will hit that sweet tooth spot, without a doubt! The recipe journal contains twenty of Emma’s tried and tested recipes in a cute little book, every recipe has a photograph which always gets bonus points from my point of view! I like to know what the end product is supposed to look like!

I thought I’d better trial one of the recipes rather than just sit there drooling at them, so I flicked through until I found a recipe we had all the ingredients for. Most of the recipes use pretty common healthy eating ingredients but we didn’t have any coconut butter or dark chocolate/chocolate chips or bananas in the house so that ruled a few of them out.

I settled on the ANZAC biscuits, which I modified slightly as we didn’t have any olive oil or pure maple syrup (sounds like we don’t have a lot in our pantry, right?!) so I substituted the same quantity of raw honey and coconut oil and they worked perfectly fine.

I thought the biscuits were going to be very sweet after I had licked the bowl as the mixture was very sweet tasting, however I was pleasantly surprised when I had let them cool (boo, hate waiting for baking to cool!) and gave one a try. They had just the perfect hint of sweetness and were not too overpowering at all! I was also pleasantly surprised that they still looked like biscuits and held together just like normal flour and sugar based biscuits!

Overall if you have a sweet tooth and love having hard copy recipes books I’d say that you would definitely enjoy Emma’s recipe journal! It’s only $20 so not a big price to pay! Check it out HERE.
