Tricking yourself or making swaps

Am I the only one that tries to trick myself into thinking something?

I always always crave sugar after a hot meal, without fail.

I try and trick myself into not craving sugar by avoiding it, go have a shower, watch t.v, read some blogs etc and I almost always have to have something regardless.

So I decided a couple of nights ago I would give dark chocolate a go, it’s supposed to be ok for you in small doses and I figure if it’s dark I won’t eat as much as normal chocolate.

I went and brought 85% Cacao Chocolate – trust me don’t do it to yourself! Anyone know any recipes with that kind of chocolate that actually taste good?

After a discussion on Twitter with @Sakura_59, I decided to give 62% Dark Cacao from Whittakers ago, perfect solution. Not so bitter I want to spit it out, not so sweet i’ll eat a whole block. A row of the chocolate (4 pieces) is 553kj or 132 calories.

While this isn’t a healthy snack by any stretch of the imagination it’s better than the two chewy chocolate tim tam’s (196 calories) I would usually have, and to be honest I would be quiet happy with only 2 pieces of the Dark Cacao. Of course overcoming this ‘want’ for sugar would be a lot better but good things take time.

Do you have any tricks/swaps you use on yourself when you are craving a certain food?

  1. Honestly, I have never been good at tricking myself. I just try to have a bit less when I’ve got a craving. Even then, I don’t always succeed haha.
I think I found that changing my whole lifestyle in general – feeling fitter and happier (those endorphins!) made my cravings change for the better.
Good luck – it’s so hard when there’s temptation! Perhaps even try something drastic like removing tempting unhealthy foods from your house completely – can’t overindulge if there isn’t any there!!

  2. I’ve found removing the temptations at work has helped, but not as much when I’m at home. I just jump in the car and go to the supermarket as I can be there and back with the junk in my hot little hands and I seem to over indulge more than if I had something sweet in the pantry to have.

I do agree with not having quiet as many cravings when I’ve been eating properly and exercising more, I think I need to focus more on eating the right things throughout the day to help keep those cravings away/ Teach the BF how to cook something healthier for dinner, he can now do stir fry which is a bonus but it does get a bit tiring.
