So a bit of an update on the whole exercise thing. I’ve been back for almost 2 weeks and got straight back into running (after having not run since November) I’ve worked myself up to being able to do just over 5km and both legs were killing me before I started, so I figured I would be able to finish the Round the Bays this weekend (7km) pretty easily.
Then came a lazy weekend and straight back into the gym and netball on Monday, and one of my legs still hurts like crazy, not sure what I have done and I had a great plan for this week so I could get up to as close to 7km as possible before Sunday. Thats kind of gone out the window now, it’s so frustrating!
Especially since I’d just decided on the two 10km races I wanted to do this year (it was on my list of goals, not sure if I was one I shared or not).
Leah mentioned the Round the Vines 10km run/walk in Martinborough on the 20th March so I’ve decided to do that one, and there is also a 10km in Rotorua on the 30th April.
I’m really hoping I can get through this week with minimal injuries.
I’m worried as I’ve had Tendonitis in both my ankles, and most years I played netball I ended up on crutches as a result.
Any tips are more than welcome! At the moment i’m going with having a day off today then forcing myself to go for a run tomorrow and see how it goes, if its still sore a day off on Thursday and then a run on Friday with a day off on Saturday again then go out with all i’ve got on Sunday.
I talked to my new personal trainer (love saying that!) about what I should do this week training wise, considering the most I have run is 6km, and I haven’t run for a couple of weeks (eek). She said to do a light 4k run today, a 3k run on thursday, and then a 20 minute jog on Saturday. She said that adrenalin will kick in and allow us to run that extra 2k that we havent managed to reach before hand, so instead of trying to get to the elusive 7k mark, we should focus on doing smaller runs this week. Hopw that helps! It will be fun regardless – even if I end up walking bits of it!
Thanks! that is good to know that the PT (Damnit I want one now!!) reccomends doing smaller runs! To be honest my leg is really quiet sore and something isn’t right at all so I think i’ll do walks instead of runs and just hope adrenaline gets me through the run! Hey and no walking you 😛
