Travel: Oh Hi Eiffel Tower & L’Arc de Triomphe

Day two in Paris and I made it to the Eiffel Tower, I couldn’t believe it lining up there weren’t many people. Although in saying that it was a crap day and whilst waiting in the line it did start to rain a bit. I had to wait about 10mins, but I did arrive a bit before it opened, I almost left because it was so cold but decided that since I was there and there wasn’t much of a line I needed to suck it up and do it.

You couldn’t go all the way to the top as it wasn’t open so will have to do that next time around, hopefully when it will be a lot warmer! I walked out into the viewing area and it started to actually physically snow, weirdest feeling ever being up a tower you’ve dreamed of seeing forever and there is snow falling on and around you. The pictures don’t really show the snow but if you see specs of white that is what they are.  After walking around the outside a couple of times my hands needed warming up so I purchased a Chocolat Chaud (hot chocolate) to warm up a little.

A short walk past the Eiffel Tower and over the bridge took me to Champ de Mars which gives a nice view back onto the Eiffel tower and is a good spot to take photo’s of the Tower.

After this I walked towards the Arc de Triomphe as it had stopped snowing and raining. I went up to the top which was interesting as it just spirals up the ‘legs’ of it which makes you feel a bit dizzy as the spiral is not very wide so it’s just like walking around in circles.

The view from the top of the Arc are pretty cool, if it was a nicer day I would have spent longer here just watching the traffic negotiate the huge roundabout, apparently there are numerous accidents a day here – not overly surprised.

Next I walked down the Champs Elysee and ended up in amongst a whole lot of old buildings which I think were  museums or art galleries then it started raining again and I’d had enough so headed back to the hostel.

The weather looks a bit better for the next couple of days so hopefully I can get to the Louvre and do a trip out to Versailles….
