Weekend at home (for a change)

I had the best weekend this weekend just been, it was awesome because it was spent at home! With nothing we had to do, just a nice relaxing weekend!

Since the 18/19 September I have had two weekends at home to do nothing, one in November and one in February, it has been crazy busy and I have really enjoyed it, but I kind of missed not having to do anything, being able to do some baking, just because, actually go for that run on the weekend that wasn’t an organised event etc.

The next three weekends (maybe 4 if we move the 4th one) we are busy as well, I’m looking forward to after those weekends when we have nothing really planned, after easter it’s the end of the summer series for racing and we have no prize givings or other events booked io, other than a 21st in July and possibly going somewhere for the long weekend on Queens Birthday.

So this weekend, on Friday night we went go-karting, out of 6 people – 5 males, and all but 1 of the males race cars or bikes I got the second fastest lap time, woo!

We didn’t get home till midnight so slept in a bit the next day, read blogs in bed for a bit then got a text asking if we wanted to have morning tea with the bf’s family in town, sure why not… then an hour or two wandering around town looking at various bits and pieces (I want a new big fridge/freezer!), and purchasing 30 hours worth of Dawson’s Creek Episodes ($18, how could I say no? The bf thinks very easily!), then we decided to go out for lunch – if your ever in Wanganui go to the Springvale Garden Centre for lunch, it’s really cheap and good food, a big pizza, calzone and drink $20 – bargain, usually we share a pizza for $8.50!

A bit of mucking around, reading some more blogs in the arvo then helping a friend move out of home, then we got home to find the flatmates had invited one of their siblings to stay without telling us, yeah real nice, that ruined the plan of getting a dvd and watching it on our good big t.v, so we went out for dinner (3 meals eaten out today, woops) then got a DVD out and watched it on the small t.v in our room (How Sad).

Sunday, a bit of a sleep in, made poached eggs on toast for breakfast and read some more blogs, went grocery shopping, brought a frying pan from briscoes $8 – bargain, and we only own a massive wok and electric frying pan so will need one when the flatties move out in a couple of weeks. A bit more blog reading then went for an 8km run, a bit of a fail I started feeling yuck halfway through. Recover from run, make 5 minute bread dough (more on this in another post), make a sandwhich for a late lunch, make brownie bites for the bf’s sisters birthday dinner (fail at making brownies cas I cooked them for too long, so they turned into small chocolate muffins with nuts in them), watch some t.v, read some more blogs, decide it would be a good idea to christen my food processor and make hummus for the first time ever.

I then found out that 1 can of chickpeas makes a lot of hummus, I then decided to go to mum and dads to make them eat some of the food I made, armed with muffin/brownie bites, hummus and some grapes & apples off our tree (for the birds) I went out there and fed them, fed the birds and watched the last few laps of the V8’s.

Then it was time to go out to the bf’s parental’s for his sisters birthday dinner, and to force feed them hummus and brownie/muffins. My hummus was a great success and really easy to make.

1 Can chickpeas (excluding juice – I put in about a teaspoon as I wasn’t sure)
Salt
Pepper
Lemon Juice – 1-2tspn
Crushed Garlic – 1/2 teaspoon
Oil – 1 teaspoon

Wizz in the food processor, it looks like it isn’t going to work to start out with as the outside of the chickpeas fly off and go to the edges, just mix them back in and keep wizzing, taste and add more salt/pepper/garlic if needed then eat and say a swear word when you realise you now have to clean up.

So that was my great lazy weekend, and a ridiculously long post!

Do you enjoy having lazy weekends with nothing planned?

  1. I totally love “nothing” weekends – the best type!! I love my couch so much on those days that it’s a little embarrassing 🙂
